Here is a picture of the PVC frame constructed out of 1x2 white PVC planks in order to achieve the thickness required to install the fan.
The PVC is 3/4" thick. With the fan closed, the fan is 5" tall and 5 3/4" when including the PVC frame.
Repairs
The manual lifter broke. Part #10-20281K-3CF
Finding the exact part proved to be challenging so I took a chance on ordering the lifter for the automatic version.

This part is made of steel and luckily it disassembled easily. I simply replaced the shaft with the old one and voila!
