Model Codes

Model codes are interpreted as follows: The first letter in the code designates the type of refrigerator: "A" denotes apartment house model; "D" DeLuxe model; "M" Master model; "S" Standard model and "I" Imperial model. The second letter, "M" signifies the period of manu-facture, as 1950. The figure in the code repre-sents the cubic foot capacity of the cabinet. Example: "43" equals 4.3 cu. ft., "110" equals 11.0 cu. ft., etc. The suffix "P", indicates that models so designated are all-porcelain finished on the outside cabinet surfaces. The letter "F" added to the model designation for AM-43 means that a special flat top has been added.

Cabinet serial numbers are located on metal plates attached to the front lower cabinet horizontal, behind the removable apron or trim, below the door, on all models. Specifications are furnished in Table 1-2-IX. Wattage data are supplied in Table 2-2-IX

Back Story

The history behind this thing is actually pretty interesting. Frigidaire was founded in 1918 as the Guardian Frigerator Company (yes, the spelling is correct) in Indiana. A year later, GM co-founder William C. Durant invested in the company, and it was renamed Frigidaire shortly thereafter.

GM owned Frigidaire between 1919 to 1979. During that time, the company also manufactured the compressors used in GM’s air conditioning units for cars, including everything from Cadillacs to Chevrolets

That handle almost looks like it belongs on the fascia of an early 1950s Cadillac Eldorado, and it definitely follows the “form over function” aesthetic that was so popular at the time. This thing is just dripping with retro coolness.
