Opening the Pool
Tasks
- Remove cover, dry, fold and put away
- clean salt cell
- ensure power and gas are off
- connect salt cell
- connect pump
- install drain plug for heater
- add filters to filter basket and seal
- remove plugs from returns and skimmer
- install return diverters and aim downward towards each other when using barracuda.
- install return diverters and aim clockwise
- run water into pump to fill up intake line.
- turn pump on
- install pool thermometer (ink-bird)
- vacuum pool - see Baracuda Alpha 3 Pool Cleaner (add weight at 1.5 tube lengths).
- turn on heater to 75F
- test pool water
- once chlorine is adequate
- turn on pool timers - pool.jmehan.com
- turn on heater schedule - see Pool Heater Controller
- test pool water and submit to pool company for analysis
- add chemicals as needed

With the pool circulating add the following chemicals 15 minutes apart around the edge of the pool:
Continue to circulate water for 24 hours after adding chemicals.
Tasks
- Turn off pool timers - pool.jmehan.com
- Set heater to off.
- Turn power off.
- Turn off gas using external shutoff.
- Drop water level below returns by about an inch or so using sump pump (about 5 hours).
- Remove return jets
- Depressurize system by releasing air from top of filter.
- Remove pump drain plug and disconnect pump.
- Attach zip lock bag over wires and secure with an elastic.
- Drain cartridge filter and remove pleated filters.
- Clean filter parts and put in filter and re-seal.
- Plug pump output with #11 plug and force air through filter drain. This will force air through the return lines.
- Plug one return using plugs to force water out other line and then repeat with the other line.
- Remove drain plug from heater and force out water with air.
- Vacuum water from skimmer and force air through intake(skimmer) line.
- Add antifreeze to skimmer drain and attach "gizmo" and extra section of pool noodle.
- Add antifreeze to return lines and plug.
- Plug pump Input with #11 plug.
- Remove salt cell and install winter cap.
- Clean filters.
- Store pump, salt cell inside. Store filters inside garage attic.
- Install Cover

Pool Opening Kit which includes:

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
- Ensure that you have already filled your pool with water and the pump is running
- Add the stain and scale product to the pool to allow the pump to circulate the water for approximately 30 minutes
- Broadcast across the surface of the pool, the oxidizer and allow for the pump to circulate for approximately 60 minutes
- Add the bottle of algaecide by walking around the edge of the pool and allow for chemicals to continue to circulate overnight
- The following day, test the pH and ensure that it is between 7.2 – 7.6
- Start chlorinating your pool
