Looks like we have a small leak in the y-connector of our sewer stack just before it goes into the basement floor.

In the past, I simply added glue to where the leak was.

Possible Fixes

  • Plastic welding and addition of additional melted ABS.
  • Remove everything and redo... Uhhhg
  • ABS bandaid - glue new piece of ABS over crack.

What I am Going to Do

Add a riser clamp to support the pipe. This is probably why it cracked in the first place.

Patch the pipe using ABS glue and fibreglass.

Steps:

  1. Dry completely

    • No moisture at all (fan + time)

  2. V-groove the crack

    • Use a Dremel or file to open the crack slightly

    • This gives cement something to bite into

  3. Flood with ABS cement

    • Work it into the groove

  4. Wrap tightly with fiberglass

    • Fiberglass mesh or cloth (not tape)

    • Wrap around the heel and as much of the branch as possible

  5. Saturate the wrap with ABS cement

    • Multiple coats

  6. Cure 24–48 hours

  • No labels
