I can't remember what direction the fan was previously, but I set it up so that it blows air away from the motor and out the vents at the top of the fridge.

This can also be confirmed by looking at where the fan blades made contact with the screws on the fan motor!


With that said, some people think it would be better to push through the coil than pull from Looks like I go this wrong, the blade should be blowing through the coil.

Another note on the airflow is I think it is more efficient to blow air through the coil than pull (induce) it through. this is because the air is slightly pressureised which will increase the temperature of the air slightly giving a greater temperature difference between refrigerant and air (on cooling mode). If it were heating like a heat pump it would be the opposite.

I ordered the replacement fan and it appears they made a enhancement to prevent the fan from moving down the shaft. Turns the fan should be pulling through the coils and blowing out through the upper vents. At least this is what I conclude based on the fan re-design.  So So much quieter now!
